Tuesday Tuneday #9

I just can't get enough of SRV! Rated #7 greatest guitar player all time by Rolling Stone Magazine, and #3 wildest guitar player by Classic Rock Magazine. A lot of people considered him the new Hendrix of his time, and like all other rock N blues musicians, SRV did cover, recreate and juice up some songs from his influences (Hendrix was a big one for SRV). Stevie recieved his first electric guitar as a hand me down from his older (by 3 1/2 years) brother Jimmie Vaughan.

Like other musicians he went through a line of bands, that is before he got to the most popular, Double Trouble. In July of 81' Double Trouble played an event in Texas, which was recorded and given to drummer Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones. Then, Double Trouble went on to play a private for the Rolling Stones. If you know SRV you know his signature guitar. An Extremely worn down 1959 Fender Stratocaster with his initials printed large on the front and the big music notes on his strap. He considers this guitar his first wife, and found her in 1974.

On August 27, 1990 Double Trouble was on tour with Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan. They left the Alpine Valley music theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin in a helicopter. There was a 300 ft. hill just after the lift off zone. The pilot took off, unfamiliar with the grounds, and crashed into the hill. Stevie, the pilot and three members of Claptons travel group were killed on impact. RIP SRV
