Tuesday Tuneday #10

"They were all wearing these black leather jackets. And they counted off this song...and it was just this wall of noise.... They looked so striking. These guys were not hippies. This was something completely new." Legs McNiel.

Forest Hills, Queens, New York, 1974. Performing 2,263 shows, touring nonstop for 22 years. Considered the first punk rock band, and my favorite punk band, The Ramones. I always come back to them. You think all the songs may sound the same, but they don't, and I love it. Now days you look at most of the Ramones music and think... "How was this heavy music ever? Its like hardly even rock" ... Well it was, it was punk rock, and it knocked the socks off millions. Most people hated the fast paced, quick songs, everyone looke at it as just a bunch of noise. They recorded their first album "Ramones" in Feb. 1976, with bassist Dee Dee Ramone being the primary writer.

It took the Ramones a while to get a crowd. Their first show outside of New York had an audience of around 10. It wasn't until they toured in England that they made there big hit in society and there met English punk groups Sex Pistols and The Clash. Rocket to Russia was the band's highest charting album to date, reaching number 49 on the Billboard 200. VIVA RAMONES!
